Kalibo, Malay top list of Aklan dengue cases

Dengue cases in Aklan are prevalent in populated areas in the latest data of Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The number of dengue cases from January 1 to November 2 this year totaled 1,492, up by 58 percent from 946 cases in the same period last year. The data were gathered from disease-reporting units in the province of Aklan. 

Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Jr. said all municipalities in Aklan have dengue cases.

The capital town of Kalibo had the highest number of dengue cases with 315 or 21 percent of the total cases. 

Data from Aklan Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance and Response Unit showed the town of Malay also topped the list with highest dengue incidence with 140 followed by Banga, 112; Numancia, 105 and Ibajay with 104.

A six-year old child from Malay, Aklan also succumbed to complications due to dengue in a private hospital in Kalibo. 

To prevent and control dengue, PHO and rural health units in Aklan have strengthened the preventive measures and information drive. 

The public are urged to practice the 4 o’clock habit at the community level to fight dengue, an acute infectious disease manifested initially with fever.

Cuachon stressed the mosquito-spreading disease are re-classified by World Health Organization as dengue with and without warning signs and severe dengue. 


The provincial government of Aklan is also set to upgrade the status of Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, the main government hospital in Kalibo, Aklan, from a licensed blood station to a blood bank facility with the acquisition of equipments and trainings of personnel.
