30 tribes, groups join 2017 Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest

Six-time tribal big champion Black Beauty Boys will be defending its title in this year's Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest, one of the highlights of the 2017 Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-Atihan festival.
 
Slated on January 14,  Black Beauty Boys from Linabuan Norte, Kalibo will compete against five other big tribes for P180,000 grand prize, the biggest in the history of Ati-Atihan festival.

Kabog from Estancia, Tribu Timawa from Andagao and Tribu Tiis-Tiis from New Buswang, all in the capital town of Kalibo and four out-of town tribes from Makato - D'Kamanggahan, Pangawasan Tribe, Vikings and  Maharlika are also registered in the contest, according to festival organizer Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi).
 
This writer, who will manage the Ati-Atihan contest, said 30 Ati-Atihan tribes and groups will be joining the traditional Sadsad Ati-Atihan. Prizes for 2017 contest for P963,000 is allocated by the municipal government of Kalibo, up by 26 percent compared to P764,000 last year's prizes for the tribal big, modern, tribal small, Balik-Ati categories and individual participants. 

On the other hand, Kasafi also released P882,500, a 16 percent from the previous year's subsidies of P783,000.   

Defending champion Tribu Bukid Tigayon from Kalibo; Tribu Alibangbang from Linabuan Norte, Kalibo; Tribu Ninolitos from Tigayon, Kalibo; Lezo Tribe from Ibao, Lezo; Tribu Tikbalang from Manhanip, Malinao and Tribu Responde from New Buswang, Kalibo are also registered in tribal small category. They will be competing for P80,000 top prize.  

Modern group champion Aeang-Aeang from Laguinbanua, Numancia will also compete against eight other groups, namely, Bae-ot Bae-ot, D' Emagine, Lagalag 27 Original, Pirates 1962, Royal Scorpio, Road Side, Pagmukeat and Gala Drumbeat.
 
Defending champion Tribu Ilayanhon mga Inapo ni Gen. Candido Iban from Lilo-an, Malinao will battle it out with Malipayong Ati, Apo ni Inday, Maninikop, Kinantuing, Anono-o Group and Sinikway nga Ati in Balik-Ati category.

Both champions of modern group and Balik-Ati categories will take home P70,000.  

During the contest, the tribes and groups will assemble at Desposorio Maagma Street, Sr. and Mabini Street. The street dancing contest will start at  8 a.m. along the major streets of Kalibo. 

Meanwhile, the deadline of registration for individual participants for modern tribal and ati tribal categories will be on January 11 at Kasafi office at 5 p.m.
