DOT: More Chinese choose to visit WVisayas

The Department of Tourism (DOT)-6 said that more Chinese are choosing Western Visayas as their destination in the Philippines.

In a media release, DOT-6 Regional Director Atty. Helen Catalbas said that China remains the second highest source of foreign tourists of Region 6.

“DOT-6 is doubling its effort to develop more tourism products and assist tour operators in coming out with more exciting tour packages,” she said.

She said that these new tour packages will further appeal to this foreign market and convince it to experience Western Visayas first more often.

Recently, Beijing Haozhou Aviation, the operator of regular charter from Beijing to Kalibo via Cebu Pacific, through the Department of Tourism Beijing, Tourism Promotions Board and DOT-6 hosted a familiarization tour to Boracay Island for Chinese agents from Northern China in three batches.

The DOT official said that Beijing Haozhou Aviation will increase flight frequency to three times per week beginning October 15, 2016.

She said that Chinese tourist arrivals followed a volatile trend for three consecutive years due to unanticipated travel advisories and circumstances.

However, she also said that the agency is optimistic that Chinese tourist arrivals will increase this year with the series of familiarization tours, business missions and increasing connectivity between China and Western Visayas.
