10-year old kid becomes DJ Battle champion

She was a skinny kid, but, for the veteran disk jockeys in Aklan, she is giving them a run for their money. She was actually grabbing headlines in Ati-Atihan opening salvo DJ battle finale.

DJ Lhaarney Grace Gregorio and three seasoned disk jockeys battled each other on October 22 in a side event of Kaleidoscope Party organized by Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi) in partnership with the municipal government of Kalibo.

The four DJs each performed a 10-minute routine for the judges to prove their skills in DJ mixing in the preliminary round.

Crowd favorite DJ Lhaarney and Giewel “DJ Q2” Andrade of Summer Place Boracay advanced to the finals. Two DJs - Alex “DJ Alex” Buday of Cue Point DJ was declared 3rd runner-up and Joseph ‘DJ Joey NaughtyBoi” Daulong of Club Paraw was the second runner-up.

In the finals, Andrade and Gregorio alternately competed in three DJ-sets with three songs each to determine the champion. At only 10-year old, DJ Lhaarney turntable wizardry did more than enough to secure the top prize of P5,000.

Andrade received P3,000 while Daulong got P2,000 and Buday took home P1,000.

“She is definitely a disk jockey material. It was my first time to see a kid in a DJ competition. She is extra-ordinary,” said Mc Eric Yang of Manila at the sidelines of the DJ Battle.

To cap the event, the power cast of DJ Jeano Zamora, charming DJ Angel Villaronte and Manila’s Remix King DJ Santi Santos were on the decks to party all night with close to 2,000 partygoers at Kalibo Magsaysay Park.

Mc Eric Yang of Manila and Naughtiee Jerry of Iloilo hosted the event.
