Kalibo cops ‘escort’ elderly woman home safely

Good vibes for small good deeds.

An elderly woman, having trouble getting home, got an unexpected help from police trainees in Kalibo, Aklan.

Thanks to the unidentified cops for treating everyone with respect and for going out of their way and beyond their call of duty to help an old woman.

Here’s how why there are good cops out there doing good things.

On Tuesday, field training policemen or FTPs were at Kalibo Pastrana Park at around 5:45 p.m. when they saw an elderly woman strolling alone inside the park.

The poor woman, aged between 65 to 70 years old, was wearing a white blouse and black skirt and had a wooden cane.

The policemen approached the woman and gave her bottled water. They asked her if she needed a ride home.

The woman responded, “sa Mercedes”.

Later, the policemen stood up, took the old woman by the arm and walked towards the street. Then they hired out of their pockets a tricycle for a trip to Mercedes Village, an interior area of Barangay New Buswang and more than a mile from Kalibo Pastrana Park.

Two FTPs, one of them a female officer, escorted the elderly woman in the tricycle to ensure she got home safely. The white-haired woman, who refused to name herself, was left speechless but she appreciates the policemen ‘acts of kindness’ to her.

The group of officers who assisted the old woman are actually part of the 35 FTPs on compulsory training program in Kalibo, Aklan. They were assigned in patrol, traffic, and investigation as a requirement for permanency of their appointment.

Aside from the 35 FTPs, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) also deployed 65 police trainees in Boracay Island. They are scheduled to return to Iloilo on October 27 for their graduation after their six months of training in Aklan.
