Shabu, gun seized in Kalibo buy-bust

A 41-year old drug surrenderee tagged as Top 5 drug personality in the watchlist in Malay, Aklan was arrested with a handgun and several sachets of suspected shabu in the capital town of Kalibo.

Dodie Palomata Cawaling alias Boyet, a resident of Plaridel Street in Poblacion, Nabas, Aklan, was allegedly caught selling large-sized sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur buyer at around 11 p.m. on November 8 in a hotel in downtown Kalibo.

Recovered from him during the buy-bust were the P4,000 marked money and mobile phone containing text messages of illegal drug trade transactions.

Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta, Ana, chief of Kalibo, said, the operatives also saw a large sachet of suspected shabu when the companion of Cawaling opened the door of the rented room.

The following day, Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Bienvenido Barrios, Jr. issued search warrant No. EJ-13-16 to search the hotel room of Cawaling and seize in the suspect’s possession and custody the suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, money collection of illegal drugs and other material used in illegal drug trade.

Police Officer 2 J-Mar Moises, case investigator of Kalibo police anti-drug unit, said, operatives served a search warrant on Wednesday morning that resulted in the recovery of a Norinco 1911 A1 caliber 45 loaded with seven live ammunition in the rented room of the suspect.

Seized also during the search operations were five large heat-sealed sachets of suspected shabu weighing more or less 20 grams worth P200,000, several pieces of drug paraphernalia, ten used sachets with residues of shabu and cash money inside the room.

The illegal drugs were placed and hidden inside a handheld brick game that was sent in a package of clothes from Bacolod City.

Cawaling stayed in Room 19 of a local hotel along Roxas Avenue in Barangay Poblacion with his 19-year old companion Eddielyn Sinelaso alias Trixie, native of Bacolod City and their one-year old baby girl prior to buy-bust operation.

Cawaling admitted he was a drug surrenderee in his hometown of Nabas, but, he denied he owned the handgun recovered by the police.

“Wala akong dalang baril...Nagbabakasyon kami ng pamilya para gumala sa Kalibo...minsan sumasabit ako sa tropa pero bihira lang...last week lang ako gumamit ng shabu,” he added.

The suspect is facing violations of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

Chief Inspector Frensy Andrade, chief of Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG), said another suspect identified as Israel Asister, a resident of Barangay New Buswang, this town, was apprehended in a separate anti-drug operation,  few hours before the arrest of Cawaling.

“Itong si Asister may transactions din kay Cawaling dito sa Kalibo, alam namin na magkakilala sila dahil nakita namin sa mga text messages ng nadakip na drug suspect sa Boracay noong isang Linggo ang mga pangalan nila. Dito sila kumukuha ng supply kay Boyet na kasama sa Top 10 sa Malay,” Andrade said.

The 35-year old Asister, who works in Boracay Island, allegedly sold two sachets of suspected shabu in Crossing Buswang to a poseur buyer in exchange for P2,000 buy-bust money while riding his motorcycle.

The suspect, however, denied the allegations he was selling the illegal drugs.
